Next month will be my one year blog anniversary. I really can’t believe it! I have had so much fun building this blog and connecting with other bloggers. I’ve met some really great people! Today, I wanted to share the beginning of my blogging journey. So keep reading!
I’m goal oriented. I need something to work toward. In high school, I planned to graduate high school, graduate college, and get married. On December 18, 2018, I graduated college. Then, on January 19, 2019, I married my best friend. Two of the goals that I had planned for my whole life were completed almost exactly a month apart. After settling in to life as a married couple, I realized I didn’t have anything to work toward. I was extremely happy in my life, but I had to think about where to go from there. Now what?
Uncertainty and Realization
My first thought was that I need to change jobs. I started a job halfway through college. I really enjoyed my job, but all of my friends were changing jobs after they graduated. In my mind, my obvious next step was to start job hunting. The job hunts kept coming up empty. I couldn’t find anything better than what I already had. I prayed and prayed for a purpose, but didn’t feel like I was getting anywhere.
Another fact about me is that I’m a worrier. I try not to, but it is my nature. One night, I couldn’t sleep. I worried about where my career should go from there. I moved to the couch, because I was tired of laying in bed.
At about three that morning I finally got the answer to my prayers. In my heart I felt God say, “I have given you these talents. Why aren’t you using them?” Well, I didn’t want to argue with God. That is never a good idea. But I didn’t feel like I had a talent. At that time, I joked and said that all I can do is read and that’s not a talent. I was wrong. Very wrong. I took being able to read and write for granted. There are a lot of people in this world who don’t have the resources to read book after book. Books are expensive. My parents never said no when it came to books. Not everyone has that. I am blessed.
Blogging and New Direction
Through my blog I have found contentment and new challenges to occupy my mind. Blogging isn’t easy, but it is rewarding.
I got a little off track with this post, but I feel like I need to share a charity that is close to my heart. As mentioned, some parents don’t have the resources to provide their child with a new book whenever they want one. That’s why I love Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. This program mails free books to children from birth to age five in participating communities. Please click the link if you would like to donate or help out! They don’t sponsor me. I just really support their program.
